Key Facts

• The China–Pakistan Boundary Agreement was signed on 2 March 1963.
• It was signed between China and Pakistan to delimit the boundary between China's Xinjiang region and the Pakistan-controlled areas of Kashmir.
• Under the agreement, Pakistan ceded approximately 5,180 sq km of the Shaksgam Valley (Trans-Karakoram Tract) to China.
• India does not recognize this agreement, as it considers the entire erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, including the ceded territory, to be an integral part of India.
