Background

Pakistan had been a close ally of the United States through military alliances such as SEATO and CENTO.
Following the 1962 Sino-Indian War, China and Pakistan developed a close strategic partnership.
In the late 1960s, Pakistan became the key intermediary in the US–China rapprochement.

In 1971, Pakistan facilitated the secret visit of U.S. National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger to Beijing, paving the way for Richard Nixon's historic visit to China in 1972.

2. Strategic Implications for India
